Young People Also Care for Nuclear Energy

By Aleksandr Bolgarov, DYSNAI festival coordinator

The main goal of the International Youth Nuclear Association, embracing young nuclear plant specialists from Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania, is to maintain contacts between the power plants, cooperate and exchange experience in nuclear energy, business, culture and environment protection. One of the episodes in the activities of the Association was to organize the annual festival, which was first held in 1988. Now each first week of July Lithuania hosts youth delegations from various nuclear power plants: St. Petersburg, Kola, Rovno, Chernobyl, Smolensk, Kursk, and Ignalina.

The program includes discussions on nuclear energy, professional and art competitions, press conferences, newspaper release and exhibitions.

The young people have a strong wish to participate in the integration process, but it is not easy to silve the financial issues and to legalize the status of the International Youth Nuclear Association. Therefore, the organization which operates de-facto seeks to be recognized de-jure, as a subdivision of WANO.

Each year one of the nuclear power plants participating in the festival program, hosts a coordinator conference for the future DYSNAI festival. The participants discuss the program, visit the plant, meet the staff of the NPP and the local government-

borders, they seek to cooperate and enhance their knowledge by sharing.

The festival this year will already be the 10th event, where directors and experts of the plants, mayors of the plant cities and politicians will have the opportunity to discus, establish contacts and consider common issues

The anniversary festival DYSNAI-97 will be joined by colleagues from Hungary, Bulgaria, and other countries
